Caterpillar was very systematically devouring this leaf - it carefully ate away the outside of the leaf in segments before eating the juicy white insides. It's like how some people leave the peas until last because they're the most delicious thing on the plate... Oxley Creek, QLD.
Caterpillar shows me its mouthparts and legs. What an alien looking creature! I wonder if it's smiling. In this shot you can also see the spinarette extruding some silk. Oxley Creek, QLD.
Caterpillar transforms into a chrysalis. I found a caterpillar in a strange state, it was hanging from a blade of grass in a J shape and looked almost dead. I suspected that it was about to become a chrysalis so I decided to steal it and take it home in the hopes of finding out what it might become. I'd just gotten it home and was showing my partner when it started undulating and writhing. Before my very eyes it began the transformation process and it was shockingly fast - only a few minutes and it was a chrysalis with butterfly shapes already appearing. I was mesmerised and once again nature won me over. Toowong, QLD.
