Caterpillar transforms into a chrysalis. I found a caterpillar in a strange state, it was hanging from a blade of grass in a J shape and looked almost dead. I suspected that it was about to become a chrysalis so I decided to steal it and take it home in the hopes of finding out what it might become. I'd just gotten it home and was showing my partner when it started undulating and writhing. Before my very eyes it began the transformation process and it was shockingly fast - only a few minutes and it was a chrysalis with butterfly shapes already appearing. I was mesmerised and once again nature won me over. Toowong, QLD.
The caterpillar of the Evening Brown Butterfly hangs in a J shape just before shedding it's skin and turning into a chrysalis. The larger whtieish blob appears to be the egg of a parasite but the caterpillar successfully transformed into a healthy butterfly. Toowong, QLD.
This caterpillar appears to have the eggs of a parasite on its head. These caterpillars feed on grass and take around ten days to transform into the butterfly once they become a chrysalis. Toowong, QLD.
